Travel tripod suggestions

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive, lightweight, and minor (when folded) tripod that is suitable for travel, e.thousand., fitting in carry-on baggage and carried effectually all twenty-four hours in or attached to a backpack. I've narrowed down to 2 - prices listed are at B&H.

$174 later rebate: Sirui T-25SK T-0S Series Travel Tripod with B-00 Brawl Caput

$131 afterward applicable discounts: Oben CT-3535 Folding Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Be-208T Ball Head

They both weigh effectually 2lbs and fold down to 12" (xxx cm) which is far smaller than most.  I'll be mounting a Nikon Z6 virtually mostly with the native 14-thirty f/4 South lens, a philharmonic that weighs in at less than 3lbs.  I like the Oben because it converts to a monopod, has dual rubber/spiked feet, and it's $twoscore cheaper.  Yet, the Sirui has a higher weight rating and slightly more positive reviews, at least on B&H.  Am I missing any obvious contenders?

I don't usually like using a heart cavalcade on a tripod. This one may be a footling exterior of your budget, but accept a look:

I broadly agree with you on the center cavalcade, but that officially collapses downwardly to eighteen.5 inches instead of 12.

In that location seems to be a broad tradeoff:
* Short maximum pinnacle
* Collapses Long
* No Center column (or WAY also many leg segments).

Pick at least 1 trouble.

And in practice, the usual suspects for travel selection slightly short + centre column or way too short.

I don't heed if it'south but 51" fully extended.  As y'all say, you pick your compromise. I'm nearly interested in small folded size and depression weight.

They both weigh around 2lbs and fold down to 12" (30 cm) which is far smaller than most. Those appear to exist ii dissimilar designs.

The Sirui has a stationary cavalcade that is removable, and the Oben has the expandable/reversible type.

In one sense, the Sirui might exist the better tripod, but the Oben design would be more convenient for travel employ.

FWIW, three# is near  the limit for those tripods.

The Oben design is going to provide a more than rigid support for your camera. For my part I piece of work off the tiptop with the middle column not raised and make up one's mind if I can live with it.

Expert idea to purchase well alee of your trip and from a place like B&H so if information technology is not up to specs you tin render it for a full refund and try once again.

In my ain experience the Oben tripods do live up to the manufacturer'south rating. Less keen though on their brawl heads as well as the ball head Sirui Chiliad-10x that I bought and returned as was the instance with the Oben BC-139 brawl caput. The Oben BD-0 mini brawl head though is splendid and I use this with speedlights.

  • Oben CT-3535 (Carbon Cobweb version) or AT-3535 (Aluminum version)
  • Sirui T-025SK (Carbon Cobweb version) or Sirui T-005SK (Aluminum version)

I'm curious which tripod did you determine on?  Did you go your easily on the tripod?  How was the quality?

Re: Travel tripod suggestions

I bought the Oben. I've not used it in the field yet, merely setting it up at home information technology feels solid and has no problem supporting my gear. Take annotation that these travel-oriented tripods are only about 53-57" tall fully extended.
